Weight per Gallon Testing

Arjay Performance Products are tested with a U.S. Standard Weight per Gallon cup, the method is as follows:

Test No. ATI-D-001
Revised: 11-01-04

Determining Density of Filled-Polyester Products

A. Method

A quick method for determining the weight per gallon and specific gravity of liquid or semi-liquid materials.

B. Apparatus

1. Controlled temperature environment 74 +/- 2 degrees F
2. Humidity at 50% +/- 10% R.H.
3. Type K Thermocouple
4. U.S. Standard weight per gallon cup:
Capacity: 83.207 grams water at 25.0 degrees C
Dimensions: 63.5 mm high by 44.5 mm wide
Net weight: approximately 157 grams

C. Reagents

1. Acetone (or equivalent for cleanup).

D. Procedures

1. Adjust sample temperature to 77 deg F +/- 1 deg
2. Tare empty cup and lid
3. Fill tared cup slowly, tamping material to remove entrapped air pockets, to slightly over top.
3. Secure top ensuring air and excess material are purged through the hole in the top.
4. Re-weigh filled cup with attached lid and record weight in grams

E. Calculations

1. Lbs per gallon = Weight of the contents (in grams)*(0.1)
2. Specific Gravity = Weight of the contents (in grams) * 0.01202

F. Report

1. Sample Temperature
2. Weight per Gallon
3. Specific gravity if needed
